Fun Things to Do in the UAE During The Eid Al Fitr Break

The 3 day Eid break is a great chance to unplug, and discover your own backyard. Make the most out of it by venturing outside the comfort of your couch and exploring many of the events and activities happening across the UAE.

Here’s a shortlist of some cool things to do this long weekend.

WATCH FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE

It’s finally out here in UAE cinemas! In the latest wizarding world adventure, the ‘Secrets of Dumbledore’ are unraveled.

In this prequel series, a young Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?

DUBAI FOOD FESTIVAL

Dubai Food Festival is BACK from May 2 to the 15th. There’s everything from 4 course tasting menus to 10 course feasts. Dubai is just one of these great food cities; there’s deliciousness in every corner, from hole-in-the wall stops, to the most glamorous of dining spots which often come with a long waitlist.

So during the food festival, there are masterclasses, chef’s table experiences, culinary collaborations between great chefs. You also have Restaurant Week where 40 of Dubai’s greatest dining spots are offering special set menus for lunch or dinner at a fraction of their typical prices.

On May 6th and 7th, there’s also going to be a street food block party held at Dubai Design District (d3). This concept of a block party is to foster a sense of community, so that Dubai-ans can come down from their high rises and meet one another over food, music, performances and art. There’s a line up of DJs who are going to be playing a mix of hip hop, Arab and indie music. There’s breakdancing, graffiti artists painting murals, and skate jams.

WANDER IN OLD DUBAI

Self-promotion. Yes. Wander with me in old Dubai and see the city the old fashioned way: one step at a time. This is for the culturally curious who want to get under the skin of this place and see what’s ‘north of the river’. We’ll wander in its streets and many surprising corners, learn many cultural tidbits and stories of myself and others growing up here, chat with the locals, and finally, break bread and hummus with one another. It’s incredible fun and a different thing to do.

You can sign up for the tour on May 4th. For more info, visit the page here.

GLOBAL VILLAGE

It’s no Expo, but Global Village (the O.G) is going to be open until May 7 2022! It’s a massive theme park with pavilions for many countries, different cuisines in every corner, rides for the brave, and music that will have you dancing all the way through.

ROLL DXB

Shake the dust off your roller skates and head over to Roll DXB at Mina Rashid where you can skate back to the 80’s. The venue is designed to look like a retro roller disco with neon lights everywhere. Also has a DJ playing some old school R&B and new hip-hop. So put your brightest retro clothing on and head there for a fun evening (and potentially a few injuries).

LOUVRE ABU DHABI

A fantastic museum and trove of history holding a huge collection of items dating from thousands of years ago to the 21st century. Many are part of the permanent exhibition, but there are also many new loans and acquisitions from partner French museums including Monet’s Haystacks and Van Gogh’s Caravans. The mind blowing architecture of this place alone is worth the roadtrip. Highly recommend a 3 to 4 hours visit, if not more, to leisurely explore all its galleries, sit under the dome and its rain of light, as well as grab a bite at 1 of the 3 restaurants.

During Eid, the museum will be hosting a variety of film screenings, a cine-sketching activity, a one-of-a-kind cine-concert, and unique audio-visual experiences under the dome.
