Going Up the Burj Khalifa: What You Actually Need to Know

Going Up the Burj Khalifa: What You Actually Need to Know

5 min read Updated March 2026

Everyone wants to go up the Burj Khalifa. And I mean everyone. If it's cool-weather season (November to March), multiply that by everyone else in Dubai too. You, your neighbour, and every other visitor have the same plan, and the queues will remind you of that very quickly.

Here's the no-fluff guide to doing it right.

When to Go

Golden hour just before sunset is stunning. The light shifts from gold to pink to that deep Dubai blue as the city lights flicker on below. These are "prime hour" slots though, so expect higher prices and book well in advance.

Going during the day is also great fun. You get a completely different perspective of the city, and non-prime slots are easier on the wallet. A mid-morning or early afternoon slot is a solid choice if sunset isn't a priority.

Weekends (Friday and Saturday in the UAE) are noticeably busier. Weekdays are best if your schedule allows.

Check the weather forecast before you go. Dubai gets dusty or hazy days, especially in warmer months, and that tanks visibility from the top. It's hit or miss. Worth noting: tickets are generally non-refundable and non-exchangeable. That said, if circumstances are genuinely exceptional, calling their customer service ahead of time may get you some leniency. No guarantees, and rules may change.

The Tickets: Silver, Gold, and Platinum

Tier Floors What You Get
Silver 124 & 125 Standard entry. Budget-friendly, but expect long queues.
Gold 124, 125 & 148 Priority access, fast-track queues, Sky Lounge with Arabic coffee & sweets, indoor & outdoor terrace, guided tour.
Platinum 152, 153 & 154 Fast track to all levels, access to the world's highest lounge (585m), welcome bubbly or beverage, unlimited canapes & High Tea catered by Armani Hotel.

My Recommendation

Go Gold or above. Silver tickets currently come with painfully long wait times. I can visibly see the lines, and multiple guests have told me they waited up to 2 hours. Save yourself the time.

Where and How to Buy

Book directly from the official website. Always. Many reseller offers might not be valid for your specific dates or time slots, and you don't want to find out at the door. Direct is peace of mind.

Once you book, you'll receive a confirmation email with a QR code. That's not your final ticket though. You still need to go to the At The Top counter to collect your physical pass. More on that below.

The Process

You do not go to the Burj Khalifa entrance directly. You go to Dubai Mall.

The At The Top ticketing counter and entrance is on the Lower Ground floor, near the food court.

Don't Get Lost

There's a desk near Bloomingdale's that also sells Burj Khalifa tickets. People mistake this for the entrance. It's not. Head to the At The Top counter directly.

Get in the Right Line

Different ticket types have different lines. Make sure you're in the correct one. I've seen people queue 20 minutes in the wrong line and get sent to the back of another.

Collect Your Pass

Show your QR code at the counter and they'll hand you a physical pass.

Security Screening

Standard stuff, but don't carry big bags.

Go Up

Enjoy.

At the Top

If visiting during the day, bring sunglasses.

Check which floors your ticket covers and make the most of them. Bathrooms are available up top. Photo add-ons (angel wings, green screen setups) are available as well, but they're pricey extras.

The Exit, Gift Shop, and Fountain Show

The exit brings you back into Dubai Mall, close to where you entered. Main gift shop and bathrooms are near the exit. There's a smaller shop upstairs too.

Dubai Fountain Shows

You can see the fountain from the observation deck, but the best view is from the ground. The evening shows start after sunset prayer at the half-hour mark and run every 30 minutes. Each show is about 2 to 3 minutes.

Skip the Crowds

Skip the railings where everyone jostles for space. Instead, take the Boardwalk along the lake or hop on a boat ride. Unobstructed view, no crowd. Much better experience.

How Long Will It Take?

Realistically, about 2 hours from arrival at the mall to walking out. That's if you follow the instructions above to the T. Gold and Platinum move faster. Silver, budget extra time.

Now go enjoy the view. You've earned it.
